With children, season by season

With young children: the bay at a toddler’s pace

No need to wait until they are older to walk in the bay. With Les Traversées de Ludo, the ‘Petite Balade’ (2 hours, 3–4 km) has no age limit and baby carriers are welcome; Chemins de la Baie runs a family outing designed for children (ages 4–10). The full crossing to the Mont is open from age 9 with Découverte de la Baie, which then recommends returning by bus. Conditions checked on 21 September 2026.

Sand yachting: two-seater from age 5, solo from 8

On the beaches of Hirel and Cherrueix, sand yachting adapts to age. At Avel Char à Voile, the two-seater opens the activity to children (ages 5–10); the single-seater can be driven solo from age 8, the minimum age also set by Char en Baie. For teenagers it is often the outing that defines the stay; for younger ones, the two-seater is enough to feel the wind. Ages checked on 21 September 2026 on both schools’ websites.

Sand yachting in the bay

Which season for which age

In spring and autumn, the spring tides show children the sea surrounding the Mont, 15 minutes from the gîte. In summer, go up to the Mont early in the morning and keep the afternoon for the beach at Genêts or the pool. In winter, the heated pool, warm all year round with water at 28°C and open from 8am to 8pm, fills the short days: children swim there even in January.

Babies and toddlers at the gîte

Children under 2 stay free and are not counted in the gîte’s capacity. Baby equipment is available on request: say what you need in the message with your booking. Le Familial, 120 m² for 6 to 10 guests, fits two generations under one roof; the neighbouring gîtes take the rest of the family, up to 30 guests on the estate.

Frequently asked questions about a family holiday

From what age can children cross the bay?

Short walks, from 2 to 4 km, are possible from the youngest age, baby carriers included. The crossing to the Mont is open from age 9 with Découverte de la Baie, which recommends returning by bus. Always with a certified guide, never alone: the tide and the quicksand cannot be guessed. Conditions checked on 21 September 2026.

How old do you need to be for sand yachting?

Children need to be 8 to drive solo, at Avel Char à Voile as at Char en Baie. Younger children (ages 5–10) ride in a two-seater at Avel Char à Voile. Ages checked on 21 September 2026: confirm them with the school when booking.

What can teenagers do around Mont-Saint-Michel?

Sand yachting, kayaking and the long crossing. Les Traversées de Ludo run a ‘Grande Balade’ of 14 km in 6 hours, with a stop at the Mont, suited to walkers in good health. At the end of the day, the heated pool stays open until 8pm. Outing checked on 21 September 2026.

Do we need to bring baby equipment?

Baby equipment is available on request: mention it in the message with your booking, along with your child’s age, so it can be arranged before you arrive. Children under 2 stay free and are not counted in the gîte’s capacity.

Is the pool suitable for children in winter?

Yes. The heated pool is warm all year round, with water at 28°C, and open from 8am to 8pm. Shared by the five gîtes, it fills rainy afternoons and winter evenings, when the bay is less suited to outings.
